Profile – Betty Schrek

Betty Schreck

I commenced Porcelain Painting in Melbourne in 1984 and began teaching in 1986. I became a member of APAT Vic, serving time as an associate member then becoming a full member after submitting set pieces for assessment. Shortly after commencing painting joined the Victorian Guild of China Painters and served on their committee for many years, including two years as President. I was proud to be part of the committee that founded the Guild Historical Collection and a convenor for their “triptych” in 1988. My early teachers included Trish Redman, Pauline Shinkfield, Patsy Meldrum, Moira Treacher and Nancy Graham. I attended workshops with Ev Hales, Josie Robinson, Barbara Dimitri, Beverly Ambridge and many others including overseas teachers. To all these wonderful artists I say thank you for your encouragement and enthusiasm which fostered not only my love for the painting but for the organizations that support and nourish our Art!

Moving to Western Australia with family in 1994 I very soon became involved with Committee for both the WA Guild of China Painters and APAT WA, including terms as President for both. In 1997 was the Social Convenor for the 6th APAT Convention in Fremantle Western Australia. As Australasian President for the 12th APAT Convention had the pleasure of working with APAT WA members in successfully hosting this prestigious International event. The fellowship and friendships made along the way have enriched my life and hope to continue to help further the growth of Porcelain Art whenever and wherever I can.
